Clean and healthy
Autogas is good for everyone.
Why governments around the world are encouraging the use of autogas
Because autogas produces much less harmful emissions than petrol or diesel. Less air pollution to damage our health and less damage to our planet.
Autogas is widely available now and most petrol vehicles can be easily converted to run on autogas.
What is autogas?
Autogas is liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and because it has a very simple chemical structure, it is very clean burning. Many of us are familiar with LPG as a convenient fuel for heating and cooking in caravans, camping, outside and in the home. Unlike petrol or diesel, LPG does not produce poisonous, unpleasant or irritating fumes which is why it has been used for years to safely power forklift trucks inside warehouses.
Liquid petroleum gas occurs with oil deposits and is separated during extraction of crude oil. It is also produced when crude oil is refined. Most of the fuels we depend on in the UK are imported but we currently export a substantial amount of LPG. It makes much more sense economically and environmentally to use a fuel that doesn’t have to be imported.
WHY AUTOGAS IS MUCH BETTER THAN PETROL AND DIESEL
Global Warming and Carbon Dioxide
We’ve all heard about climate change and global warming and we should all know that we need to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2). The target for CO2 reduction is 20%.
Autogas: 20% less carbon dioxide than petrol
But diesel produces 19% less carbon dioxide than petrol, so shouldn’t I be driving a diesel?
On CO2 figures, the diesel looks almost as good.
But the problem with diesel vehicles is that they produce a large amount of particulates and nitrous oxides and these are a major cause of poor air quality in our towns and cities.
Autogas: 120 times less harmful particlulates than diesel
Particulates and nitrous oxides are responsible for thousands of deaths and illnesses every year.
Particulates and nitrous oxides make life worse for many people suffering from asthma, hay-fever and respiratory disease.

So if more people drive on autogas instead of diesel, our towns and cities would be cleaner, healthier and more pleasant places to be.
If you know anyone who suffers from asthma, hay-fever or respiratory disease, shouldn’t you do what you can to help?
AUTOGAS IS BETTER FOR EVERYONE
How does driving affect global warming?
Whenever we drive a vehicle, carbon dioxide (CO2) is produced. Carbon dioxide is converted to oxygen by plants and trees but we are now producing more CO2 than plants and trees can convert to oxygen. As a result, CO2 is building up in the atmosphere. With developing countries increasing their use of energy rapidly, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is increasing. This reduces heat loss from the planet and so the earth’s temperature is rising.
So what’s wrong with that wouldn’t it be nice if it was warmer?
It might be but there are also major effects that are not so good. A huge amount of water is being released as the ice caps melt and this is already causing an increase in flooding around the world with disastrous consequences. In the South of England water shortage is an increasing problem and longer, drier summers will make this much worse. There are lots of other effects that will make life difficult or impossible for people (and wildlife) around the world.
And many experts think that, if we don’t make a real effort to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, we could pass a point-of-no-return within the next 50 years.
OK, but that’s not really going to affect me, is it?
If you’re planning to be around for 20 years or more it might well affect you. Most importantly, if you have children and grandchildren, it could have a very big effect on their lives if we don’t all start doing something now.
Which is why global warming is becoming such a big issue.
Change to autogas the easy way to reduce your CO2
And you’ll be saving money too.
More good reasons to change to autogas
Autogas vehicles: 50% quieter than many diesels
Cut traffic noise and make our towns and cities better places.
Diesel: More than 400 people a day make a costly mistake
It’s a very easy to make the mistake of filling a diesel tank with petrol. And this can be a very costly mistake. The average cost of repairs is £3,000 according to the AA and it’s not usually covered by insurance. So much for diesel being cheaper.
You can’t put the wrong fuel in an autogas filler.
LPG: No fuel spills or stains
The nozzle and filler are sealed and the filling stops automatically when the tank is full.
Autogas: Better for your engine
With its simple chemical make-up it is clean burning and burns more efficiently than petrol or diesel.
